She\u2019s the author of the book Upside-Down Love (Maqluba), published in Hebrew and translated into Italian, Dutch and English, which describes how she and Osama met and fell in love.\u00a0In her blog, she writes about raising their two children in the West Bank.\u00a0She has changed the names of people in her book and blog to protect their privacy, and during her first years of blogging she wrote under the pen name <strong>\u201cUmm Forat,\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0which means \u201cMother of Forat\u201d in Arabic.<\/p><p>Sari is the executive director of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stoptorture.org.il\">Public Committee Against Torture in Israel<\/a>, a human rights organization protecting Palestinian detainees and others at risk of being subjected to torture and mistreatment. She is the co-founder and former executive director of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gisha.org\">Gisha-Legal Center for Freedom of Movement<\/a>, the Israeli human rights organization promoting freedom of movement for Palestinians in Gaza. She previously served as program director for Human Rights Watch, leading the organization&#8217;s global research and research staff of 270 people and as research director at Democracy for the Arab World Now, where she\u2019s currently a fellow. She&#8217;s an expert in international humanitarian law, a subject she has taught at Tel Aviv University and Yale Law School.<\/p><p>Sari\u2019s essays appear in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/08\/15\/style\/modern-love-our-marriage-includes-an-emergency-backpack.html?unlocked_article_code=1.eU8.YI9X.IlGza1gLSlB6&amp;smid=url-share\">the New York Times,<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msnbc.com\/opinion\/msnbc-opinion\/israel-starving-gaza-us-complicit-rcna221118\">MSNBC<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/foreignpolicy.com\/2021\/03\/03\/biden-cant-claim-moral-leadership-while-sanctioning-the-icc\/\">Foreign Policy<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nybooks.com\/online\/2024\/01\/27\/gaza-two-rights-of-return\/\">New York Review of Books<\/a> and other publications.
